Gypsum powder is a natural non-hydraulic binder that occurs as soft crystalline rock or sand. Pure gypsum powder is white and so smooth that it may be scratched with a fingernail. Building: Gypsum is in high demand as a raw material in construction due to its unique ability to supply a wide range of qualities. For example, it does not smell, implying that it is odourless. Similarly, gypsum and its derivative products dominate many aspects of interior and exterior building.
Medicine: Gypsum and its derivatives are employed in the production of surgical splints, modelling, and casting moulds. It is also utilised in traditional Chinese medicine as a medicinal substance known as shi gao. Gypsum is frequently used in dentistry to manufacture impression plasters.

Fertilizer and Soil Conditioner: Gypsum powder is used as a fertiliser and soil conditioner in agriculture. The use of gypsum as a fertiliser increased the soil's sulphur and calcium levels. Plants make great use of these two nutrients.

When gypsum is applied to soil, its affinity for water molecules boosts the soil's ability to hold water. Reclaiming Saline Soils: When Gypsum Powder is applied to acidic and sodic soil, the highly soluble form of boron (sodium metaborate) in the soil is changed into a less soluble calcium metaborate, and the effect of gypsum application reduces the exchangeable sodium ion percentage.

Water Treatment: Gypsum is used to harden water in preparation for brewing. Several studies have demonstrated that gypsum may be simply utilised to remove contaminants such as arsenic and lead from polluted water.

Food Industry: Because gypsum is widely regarded as safe for human consumption, it is permitted to be used in tiny amounts in the manufacturing of foods and beverages. Gypsum can be used as an anti-caking agent, a dough thickener, a drying agent, a firming agent, a stabiliser, a colour enhancer, and a thickener.
