Micro-perthitic textures in crystals can be seen with a light microscope, but only crypto-perthitic textures can be seen using an electron microscope.

The amount of quartz and the ratio of alkali feldspar powder to plagioclase feldspar are used to classify igneous rock. Plagioclase, which is calcium-rich, is the first feldspar to crystallize from cooling magma, but it gradually becomes sodium-rich as crystallization advances.
